Wonder Woman 1984 is leaving HBO Max at the end of the day today—Sunday, January 24—after being on the streaming service for 31 days. This is in accordance with Warner Bros.’ plan to simultaneously release its 2021 film slate both in theaters and on HBO Max for the first month of the movies’ releases.
But that doesn’t mean this is your last chance to ever watch Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig, and Pedro Pascal on the small screen. Here’s everything we know so far about when Wonder Woman 1984 is leaving HBO Max, and what’s next for the superhero movie.
WHEN IS WONDER WOMAN 1984 LEAVING HBO MAX?
Wonder Woman 1984 is leaving HBO Max on Sunday, January 24. A representative from HBO Max said the film would be available “through the 24th,” but did not provide an exact time the film would leave the streaming service. However, new titles are typically added to HBO Max at 12:01 a.m PT, or 3:01 a.m. ET, so we can guess that Wonder Woman 1984 will be available until midnight on Sunday on the west coast.
On the other hand, the movie was initially released on December 25, 2020 at Noon ET / 9 a.m. PT, so it’s also possible it might disappear by lunchtime on January 24. Point being, plan to wake and Wonder Woman before it’s too late.
WHERE IS WONDER WOMAN 1984 HEADED NEXT? WHEN IS THE WONDER WOMAN 1984 VOD RELEASE DATE?
First of all, you can still catch Wonder Woman 1984 in theaters, if you feel safe doing so.
A representative from Warner Bros. told Decider that there is no official decision regarding the Wonder Woman 1984 home entertainment plans as of yet, despite the fact that The New York Times has reported the Warner Bros. films will get a traditional Blu-ray/DVD and digital release, sometime after they stream on HBO Max.
While there is no official announcement one way or another, we can speculate that if Wonder Woman 1984 does come to VOD and DVD, it might be released around mid-to-late March 2021, based on the time between the first Wonder Woman‘s theatrical release and DVD release.
However, these are extenuating circumstances, to put it mildly. Wonder Woman 1984 is still playing in theaters, but saw a sharp drop in the box office after opening weekend, according to Variety. The 90-day window between theatrical and DVD/VOD releases has already been upended by Universal Studios, which has a deal with AMC theaters to shorten the window to 17 days. So perhaps Warner Bros. will rush Wonder Woman to home media sooner. But it’s also unclear if Warner Bros. made any promises to theaters when it decided to release its entire 2021 slate on HBO Max.
Basically: We don’t yet know what will happen next with Wonder Woman 1984. If you want to watch the film at home, your best bet is to catch it on HBO Max before the end of today.
