BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) -Happy 2nd day of 2021! It didn’t take long to get our first winter storm of the new year. Here it is!
The storm moved in late on New Year’s Day, and so far it has featured all the precipitation types that Mother Nature can throw at us . . . snow, sleet, freezing rain, and just plain rain. What we will see today is some pretty heavy, steady, wet snow in our northern areas, with a mix of snow, sleet, and some freezing rain in our central areas, and just plain rain near the MA border. This will all be going on at a pretty good clip through the morning hours. Then it will quickly taper off in the afternoon with just a few, lingering snow showers, mainly in the higher elevations. The storm will be out of here by the evening.
We will end up with 3-6″ of snow in our northern areas, but some spots in the higher elevations near the Canadian border will end up with up to 8″ of snow. Our central & southern areas will only get about 1-3″ of snow, and much of that will be squished down from the rain & sleet.
Sunday will start with sunshine, but clouds will move in during the afternoon with a chance for a few snow showers late in the day, as a compact storm system forms off the New England coast to our east. That system is going to just wobble around for a few days out there, but may kick back a few snow showers our way from time to time right through the middle of next week.
Things will settle down a bit by the end of the week.
If you can stay put this morning, things should improve by the afternoon as the storm winds down and the road crews do some cleaning up. Take it easy out there today! -Gary
