For the last calendar year, high school recruits have been desperately waiting for the college recruiting dead period to be lifted so that they’d be able to start making in-person visits to college campuses.
It appears as though that time is will be happening in the near future.
College football programs, including Pitt, are tentatively preparing for the dead period to end at the start of June and are setting up official visits for the remainder of the summer.
Back on February 1, 2022 tight end Max Dowling (Canisius High School in Buffalo, New York) received his first D-I offer from Pitt and will be among the first group of players to travel to Pittsburgh, as he’s scheduled an official visit from June 10th to the 12th.
”With this news, things are starting to feel a bit normal again,” Dowling tells Pittsburgh Sports Now. “I’m excited to be able to meet these coaches that I’ve been talking to. It feels as though everything is starting to clear up. Actually a year ago today, they were sending us home from school and things with COVID were building up. Now a year later, everything is starting to open up especially on the recruiting side, which is definitely good.”
”This is real exciting. I actually didn’t know that I was one of the first players invited for a visit to Pitt. I really want to personally meet all the coaches that I’ve been communicating with over texts and phone calls. On top of that, Pitt is the first place I’m going to see because the relationships that I have with them are definitely stronger than with any other program I’m talking with.”
With this visit scheduled, I asked Dowling his plan for the visit and things he’ll be looking for that will help him to make a decision.
”The main thing is I have to get a feeling when I’m there that this is a place I’m comfortable at and spending the next four years of my life,” said Dowling. “Whether it’s academically in the classroom and if I could see myself succeeding there and also athletically, do they have everything I need to be a better player. I believe I can already tell that Pitt does. Also, do I feel comfortable there and already believe that will be the case but I’ll have to see.”
