The only way to cool off Max Pacioretty is take him out of the lineup.
The Golden Knights’ leading goal scorer missed Sunday’s game against Los Angeles and is day to day with a lower-body injury, the team said.
His status for Monday’s game against St. Louis at T-Mobile Arena is undetermined.
“It’s not easy. But we’re not the only team that’s going through injuries,” captain Mark Stone said. “A condensed schedule, guys are going to miss a game or two here or there. Guys got to step up. Can’t just have one or two guys going every night.”
Pacioretty scored twice Friday in a 4-2 victory over the Kings, but he blocked a shot with three minutes remaining in the third period and favored his left foot for the remainder of his shift.
Apologies for the poor video quality, but this is when Golden Knights LW Max Pacioretty got hurt Friday.

Coach Pete DeBoer noted Saturday that multiple players missed practice in Los Angeles for maintenance days and were “dealing with some things.”
With Pacioretty out of the lineup, winger Alex Tuch moved into his place on the top line alongside center Chandler Stephenson and right wing Mark Stone.
Pacioretty appeared in every game prior to Sunday and is tied for sixth in the NHL with 16 goals, eight of which have come in March. He is second on the Knights behind Stone with 30 points in 28 games.
The Knights missed the left wing’s threat on the power play Sunday during their 3-1 loss to Los Angeles at Staples Center, as they went 0-for-4.
Stephenson appeared to score with the man advantage early in the third period, but Kings defenseman Drew Doughty crashed into the net to keep the puck out and was penalized for delay of game.
The Knights were unable to convert on the five-on-three, generating two long shots from defenseman Shea Theodore. They lead the league with 5:15 of tw0-man advantage time this season, but only have one goal to show for their five attempts.
“He’s our leading scorer so we miss him,” DeBoer said. “But we’ve done this all year. We’ve had next man up and guys have stepped in. We had enough in the lineup to win that game tonight, we just didn’t get it done.”
Costly challenge
After further review, DeBoer regretted challenging Los Angeles’ opening goal by Sean Walker in the second period for goaltender interference.
Kings captain Anze Kopitar drove hard to the net and caused a pile-up around Knights goalie Marc-Andre Fleury. The puck popped out to Walker, and his second effort from the crease finally slid into the net.
DeBoer said he didn’t have a good look of the play from the bench and was relying on other people to help make the decision.
“Poor challenge by us. It cost us a goal,” DeBoer said. “When I got in at the end of the period and got a chance to really look at some different views, I think that it was probably a marginal call and the refs probably got it right.”
Making matters worse for the Knights, Dustin Brown converted on the subsequent power play 51 seconds later to put Los Angeles ahead 2-0.
“I would have liked to see us kill that,” DeBoer said.
The Knights are 0-2 on coach’s challenges this season. They also unsuccessfully challenged a missed game stoppage (high-sticking the puck) against Anaheim on Feb. 27.
Back at it
The Knights traveled home following the loss and play the second of back-to-back games against the Blues on Monday at T-Mobile Arena.
St. Louis is coming off a two-game sweep at San Jose and trying to heal up after being ravaged by injuries.
“We play so many games in a short period of time,” winger Reilly Smith said. “You’re not going to win them all, but you got to make sure you don’t let one game snowball into two or three. (Monday is) a big one for us now.”
