LSU quarterback Max Johnson and his Super Bowl winning quarterback father Brad Johnson are home in Georgia with the spring school session complete, which means the pair are back at work preparing for summer workouts and Max' sophomore season at LSU. Johnson went 2-0 to cap his true freshman campaign at LSU, leading the Tigers to a Top 10 win at Florida. With new offensive coordinator Jake Peetz, Johnson is learning the scheme and continuing to work every day at his game.
"I think just competing every day. We're all coming in to watch film not on practice days throughout the weekend," Johnson said this spring. "We're all setting up time with coach Peetz not to just talk about football, but about life. I think we're all competing really well together. We're all different. We're all competing different ways and I think it's going to be a great competition."

Head coach Ed Orgeron is letting the competition play out into the summer and fall camp, he said after LSU's Spring on April 17. Johnson is battling Myles Brennan and Garrett Nussmeier for the starting job after fellow 2020 signee TJ Finley transferred out of the program this week.
"I think that when we come back to camp, we're going to have to designate a certain amount of reps for certain guys and give the first and second guy more reps," Orgeron said. "I think that's going to be a process during camp. I don't know what part of camp it's going to happen, but we're going to have to give the first or second guy more reps to see who's going to be the starter."
