And Just Like That, the ladies of Sex and the City are back.
HBO Max has green lighted a new chapter of the seminal HBO series from executive producer Michael Patrick King.
And Just Like That will star Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis as Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte navigating the complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s. Kim Cattrall, who played Samantha Jones in the original series, is not returning to reprise her role.
The Max Original 10-episode half-hour series is based on the 1997 book Sex and the City by Candice Bushnell and the original television series created by Darren Star.
“I grew up with these characters, and I can’t wait to see how their story has evolved in this new chapter, with the honesty, poignancy, humor and the beloved city that has always defined them,” said Sara Aubrey, head of original content, HBO Max.
Parker, Nixon and Davis will also serve as executive producers.
The original series premiered on HBO in 1998 and ran for six seasons until 2004. It spawned two films, Sex and the City in 2008 and Sex and the City 2 in 2010.
On Sunday, Parker, Nixon and Davis all shared the long-rumored news on their Instagram pages. They each posted a short teaser featuring footage of a bustling New York City between cuts to a computer screen with the phrases “And just like that…” and “The story continues…” typed out to Parker’s familiar Sex and the City voice-over.
Production on the new series is set to begin in New York in late spring.
