HBO Max taps Vera Peltekian to lead original TV production in France

HBO Max has appointed Vera Peltekian as VP and commissioning editor of original production France, Warnermedia International.

Based in Paris, Peltekian (pictured left) will commission original programming for HBO Max when she officially joins the company in November. She joins a pan-regional team responsible for commissioning and producing drama, comedy, documentary and unscripted content in EMEA for HBO Max.

The announcement was made by Antony Root, EVP and head of original production for WarnerMedia EMEA.

A veteran of the industry, Peltekian has managed French drama series and co-produced original programming at the Canal+ group since 2006, working with some of France’s top creative talent. Prior to her current role, she worked at Tele Images, heading up French drama development, producing scripted drama series over five years for both public networks and free TV. Peltekian got her start as a script reader for Studiocanal and worked for the Canal+ Documentary Department.

“Vera is a world-class television executive whose passion for nurturing storytellers has seen her work on some of France’s most creative and ambitious programming,” Root said in a release. “This appointment ensures we can start to develop exciting new content, so when we launch HBO Max in France, we can present a slate that will intrigue and delight audiences.”

Added Peltekian: “I’m happy and proud to join such a talented team. WarnerMedia means a lot to everyone working in this industry in France and Europe. It is a symbol of ambition, creativity and respect for the audience and talent — always taking a chance to be the best. These qualities are exactly what we need in a competitive market.”

HBO Max launches in the Nordics and Spain on Oct. 26 and will expand to 20 additional territories across Europe including Greece, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal and Turkey in 2022.

Propagate hires EVP, head of formats, announces sales promotions

Propagate International has appointed Isabelle Azoulay as executive vice president, head of formats as part of its growing presence in Europe.

The announcement was made by Cyrus Farrokh, president, Propagate Content International. Azoulay (pictured right), who is based in Amsterdam, will lead the company’s growing global formats business, overseeing sales and acquisitions, reporting to Farrokh.

Azoulay joins Propagate from ITV Studios Global Entertainment, where she was SVP, licensing non-scripted for Europe and Latin America. Prior to that she was SVP, licensing at Talpa Global, overseeing non-scripted formats in Europe and Latin America as well as scripted format sales worldwide. She also held roles at Calt Distribution, a Robin & Co. group, and TF1 International.

“Propagate International is experiencing robust growth globally across international sales, formats and production. Isabelle’s experience in scripted and non-scripted format sales and acquisitions will be a critical component in the next phase of our international growth. I am excited to bring her in as part of our international leadership team,” said Farrokh in a statement.

“I am thrilled to be joining Propagate International at such an exciting time for the content and distribution ecosystem. It’s inspiring to be part of Ben Silverman and Howard Owens‘ successful content company, and I look forward to working with Cyrus and the whole team as we engage with valued partners across the world to build successful futures together,” added Azoulay.

The company also announced Catalina Ramirez’s promotion to VP of sales and acquisitions. Based in L.A.,Ramirez joined Propagate in 2020 and is the lead of partnerships among local Spanish-speaking prodcos.

Also being promoted is Dan Thunell, who has been elevated to the role of director of sales and development responsible for MENA and Eastern Europe. Thunell also manages Propagate’s local production international pipeline. He joined Propagate in 2017 as part of the company’s development team and moved to the company’s International unit in 2019.
