…it’s been pretty apparent that the lineup hasn’t quite hit its stride yet. Mookie Betts missed a series in San Diego dealing with a finger issue. The reigning NL MVP is batting .175 as he works through swing adjustments. And America’s Slugger Max Muncy is stumbling out of the gate.
It turns out that Max has been hiding his good reason for struggling.
On the pregame broadcast, Max confirmed with Alanna Rizzo that he had been dealing with a broken finger since summer camp.

Moreover, Muncy revealed the injury by accident as he was breaking down his year to date.
I was feeling good in spring training and then it stops. And I feel like I put a lot of good work in during the quarantine and we come back and then first intrasquad game I break my finger. And so I was trying to come back from that … every little thing piling up at once.
The revelation took Rizzo by surprise. Max too.
…I don’t know if I was supposed to say that or not, but yeah, it was fractured. It was something that we were trying to monitor — it was a little difficult to grip the bat sometime but I wasn’t gonna let that bother me.
Muncy has started every game this season but is batting .182 with 4 home runs, the latest of which was a relief for the slugger.
