Bruce Springsteen Archives presents an E Street trip with Mighty Max Weinberg - Asbury Park Press

One of the most enjoyable music-related online offerings of the coronavirus outbreak was “Mighty Max's Monday Memories” starring E Street Band drummer Max Weinberg.

Weinberg answered submitted questions from readers of Backstreets on the series, and he did not shirk in his duties. Viewers got the back stories of when Bruce Springsteen had the “The Talk” with Weinberg, when the entire band went to the movies to see “Jaws 2,” the only skit that Weinberg refused to do for Conan O'Brien, and much more.

Weinberg was, of course, was the band leader on “Late Night with Conan O'Brien” and “The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien.”

“Mighty Max's Monday Memories,” accessible via Weinberg's Instagram and YouTube pages,  had it all and more, plus a different set each week. Weinberg delivered five episodes before he hit the pause button in June. We miss it.

Until it comes back, Weinberg will be featured on the equally insightful “What’s Up on E Street?” series presented by the Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music at Monmouth University.

The new series highlights individual members of the band and how they're dealing with life in coronavirus times.

“Maintaining hope seems to be the only method of dealing with the virus day to day,” said Weinberg in a statement. “Hope that sooner rather than later science will develop the answer as it historically does. In the meantime, I think the Hard Rock Cafe motto seems especially apropos: ‘Love All — Serve All.’ I would add wear your mask, stay socially distanced, don’t screw around with other people’s lives, and VOTE!”

Nils Lofgren and Roy Bittan have previously been featured on the series.

“Despite the manner by which COVID has attacked our lives, I get great satisfaction from hearing how Max uses the time he now has at home,” said music historian Bob Santelli, who created the series, in a statement. “You’ll be surprised by my conversation with Max. Among other things, it was like taking a crash course American history.”

The episode goes live on 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 21 and can be accessed on the Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music website or via the Springsteen Archives’ Facebook page.
