The 7 Best Movies Coming to HBO Max in August - Vogue

farihaue.blogspot.com

It’s almost August, which means the days are getting longer, hotter, and less bearable, but luckily, the advent of the new month means HBO Max is getting ready to release a whole new crop of films and TV shows. While Netflix reliably churns out must-watch originals, HBO Max really shines at providing us with the nostalgic favorites we long to watch while hunkered down (in a highly air-conditioned room, of course). Below, find the seven films we’re most excited to watch on the streaming service next month.

All the President’s Men

This 1976 political thriller starring Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman as Woodward and Bernstein, the journalistic super duo who broke the news of the Watergate scandal, is a deeply necessary reminder that Trump isn’t the first corrupt president in American history. (Additional fun fact: The real-life Carl Bernstein was married to Nora Ephron, who sleuthed out the identity of his anonymous informant, “Deep Throat,” and allegedly told everyone she met for decades because she was an absolute legend.)

Barefoot in the Park

Based on the play by Neil Simon, this 1967 romantic comedy features Jane Fonda and Robert Redford as a pair of mismatched—yet impossibly charming—newlyweds living in a tiny fifth-floor walk-up in Greenwich Village. (Better not to think about how much such an apartment would cost in 2020, just to stave off the inevitable onslaught of depression.)

Blue Crush

This timeless ode to the Hawaii surfer girl way of life (not to mention the style—hello, board shorts and bikini tops!) is the Platonic ideal of a sports movie, and I will fight anyone who says otherwise. If you’re craving the story behind the story, read Susan Orlean’s 2002 article “Life’s Swell”—which inspired the Kate Bosworth film—before watching.

Ocean’s Eleven

The heist movie to end all heist movies, this 2001 reboot features a shockingly impressive cast lineup that includes George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle, Andy Garcia, Bernie Mac, and Julia Roberts. (Also, Elliott Gould, the not-so-secret gem of every film he’s in.)

The First Wives Club

Diane Keaton, Bette Midler, and Goldie Hawn plotting revenge on their feckless ex-husbands, and uniting for a white-clad, choreographed rendition of Lesley Gore’s “You Don’t Own Me” in the process? What did we do to deserve this, not to mention the upcoming reboot?

Martha Marcy May Marlene

Elizabeth Olsen is magnetic in this 2011 thriller about a young woman who returns to her family after living with an abusive cult in the Catskills, only to find that reentry to “normal” life is a little more complex than she expected.

Wedding Crashers

Remember a time before social distancing, when the height of comedy was Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn going down a rabbit hole of bro-y, zany adventures at weddings they weren’t invited to? It was all somehow simpler then, wasn’t it?
