Max Muncy got it done at the plate, Ross Stripling got it done on the mound, and the Dodgers won their second straight game to start the season.
Last night, the Dodgers’ offense scored eight runs and had 11 hits. Tonight, they finished with nine runs and 13 hits. The offense was more evenly spread tonight, as seven different players recorded a hit, but the firepower came courtesy of Muncy.
He put the Dodgers on the board early, as his solo homer in the first inning gave his team the early lead.
The next pair of runs came courtesy of Justin Turner. In the bottom of the second, he swung at the first pitch and brought in Joc Pederson to push LA’s lead to two. Two innings later, Turner was back at it again. Yet again, he swung at the first pitch. This time, he hit a double and brought in Muncy.
In the sixth inning, Muncy decided to try and hit it into the ocean yet again. It didn’t quite get there, but as the tweet said, it’s just as good.
On the pitching side of things, Stripling was nearly lights out. After years of going back-and-forth between being a reliever and a starter, 2020 looks to be the year he’ll finally get a full-time shot in the rotation. Well, he left a damn good first impression.
He threw seven innings, allowing only one run on four hits. Stripling also struck out seven while issuing no walks. For the most part, he was in control all night. The lone run he allowed came via the home run. Aside from that, the Giants didn’t really do much else.
Stripling was hitting 94 mph on his fastball and also giving us filthy pitches like this.
Other takeaways
- Corey Seager stays HOT. He finished with three hits and a walk
- The bullpen put up zeros for the second consecutive night. Jake McGee and Dylan Floro pitched scoreless innings
