MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - At the Mississippi Arts and Entertainment Experience, a crowd of people came to support a local artist on his singing journey.

The MAX held a public watch party to cheer on Jamal Roberts as he fights to maintain his spot on the ‘Sunday Best’ gospel singing competition on the BET network. Family and friends were there to fellowship and watch Roberts’s performance on the show. Mayor Percy Bland spoke out about the singer’s success.

“We are so proud of Jamal. He is only 22 years old that’s on BET. He has a lot of talent and we just want to keep pushing him. He is just representing Meridian. A lot of people on social media and others have pushed him. We want to let the people know from outside the state that Mississippi to know that we got a lot of talent in the city of Meridian,” said Mayor Percy Bland.
