Charles Rogers and Sarah-Violet Bliss will continue running the series while also developing new projects.
HBO Max is forging stronger ties with Search Party.
The WarnerMedia streaming platform has renewed the dark comedy for a fifth season and also signed creators Charles Rogers and Sarah-Violet Bliss to an overall deal.
Under the two-year deal, Rogers and Bliss will continue overseeing Search Party while also developing new projects for HBO Max. The renewal for the series comes about two weeks after the final episodes of season four debuted.
"We are thrilled that HBO Max has not only given the world a fifth season of Search Party, but also shown this much faith in our partnership with them as we develop new projects for the platform," said Bliss and Rogers in a statement. "Potential titles for upcoming shows include Monkeys Love Manhattan and The Pineapple Predicament. Those aren't actual shows we would ever pitch but it exhibits that we can make up titles if we need to."
HBO Max, like other streamers, doesn't release viewing figures for its shows (nor does Nielsen currently include the outlet in its weekly rankings). Search Party has enjoyed positive reviews throughout its run; The Hollywood Reporter critic Inkoo Kang said the fourth season, while uneven, contained examples of the series at its best.
"Charles and Sarah-Violet are the masters of genre-blending and we can’t wait to see what they come up with next," said Sarah Aubrey, head of original content at HBO Max. "It's been a joy working with them — they are whip smart, wildly funny and have such a distinctive worldview. We couldn’t be happier that they are continuing to call HBO Max their home."
Search Party, which stars Alia Shawkat, John Reynolds, John Early and Meredith Hagner, aired its first two seasons on TBS before moving to HBO Max as WarnerMedia looked to build up the roster of originals on the streaming service. Bliss and Rogers spoke with THR's TV's Top 5 podcast last year about the move.
Bliss and Rogers executive produce the series with Michael Showalter and Jax Media's Lilly Burns and Tony Hernandez.
