(Estherville)-- Police in Estherville are mourning the loss of the department's K-9, Max, who suddenly passed away of a medical condition Friday.
A post on the department's Facebook page says Max had been with the Estherville Police Department since October 30th, 2019. He was trained by his handler, Matt Reineke, a Sergeant on the Estherville Police Department.
The post says Max assisted with 17 drug and paraphernalia seizures, with two of the largest involving one ounce of methamphetamine and two ounces of marijuana. Max also assisted the Spirit Lake Police Department in tracking down a felon with a firearm.
