Mortal Kombat has finally arrived on HBO Max in all of its gory (see what we did there). Those who know the ’90s Mortal Kombat video game franchise already know what to expect, but if the R rating is not warning enough, be prepared to witness some pretty bloody encounters. In the brand new film from director Simon McQuoid, fans are introduced to mixed martial arts fighter Cole Young (Lewis Tan), who becomes the target of some mysterious assassins. In an effort to protect himself and his family, Cole leans on a team of skilled fighters to prepare for a battle with the evil Sub Zero. Be prepared to witness your favorite fictional warriors such as Lord Raiden (Tadanobu Asano) and Sonya Blade (Jessica McNamee) engage in some of the best live-action fights we’ve seen.

Mortal Kombat began streaming on HBO Max on Friday, April 23 at 12 a.m. PT, or 3 a.m. ET, and is already battling for a top spot at the domestic box office since it also debuted simultaneously in U.S. theaters.

Unfortunately, no. If you want to stream Mortal Kombat online, you’ll need to sign up for HBO Max, which comes with a monthly subscription fee.
