FORT COLLINS – No early wake-up call and seeing the sunrise from a bus window this Saturday for the Colorado State track and field team as they will be able to mosey on down to the Jack Christiansen Track at a reasonable hour for the season's first home meet – the Doug Max Invitational.
It is the second running of the invitational that was named after Doug Max, a former Colorado State student-athlete turned head coach turned administrator. Max held the position of Senior Associate Athletic Director for Facility Management until retiring just a few months ago at the end of 2020. The first running of the Doug Max Invitational was on April 14, 2019 and plans are for it to continue annually, lasting longer than Max's 40 years of service to the athletic department.
The teams that will converge Saturday include Wyoming, Air Force, Colorado, Colorado School of Mines and Northern Colorado. The weather forecast projects sunny skies all day with temperatures starting at 58 degrees in the morning and climaxing at 76 degrees in the later afternoon.
Field and running events will commence at 10 a.m. following the national anthem sang by two student-athletes, Hailey Leader and Sophie Lewis. On the track, the 1,500-meter races start it, while the hammer throw opens simultaneously in the field.
The meet is closed to fans. Live Results will be available here.

On hosting…
"The staff and student-athletes are very much looking forward to it – having some sense of normalcy of hosting a home meet. I think everybody is more comfortable in their own facilities and not having to travel, so we are very thankful for the opportunity."
On Doug Max Invitational…
"Doug was a huge development of the Colorado State track and field program over decades. That along with his overall dedication to the athletic department at Colorado State, I thought it was a good idea to name one of our meets after him. He will be here and put to work as a celebrity starter. We look forward to having him here for the meet on what looks to be a great day out."
