Memo to New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman: you need to find some more starting pitching.
That much was true after watching Jameson Taillon and Domingo German stink it up over the weekend against the Philadelphia Phillies.
On top of that, Deivi Garcia is struggling in the minors and Luis Severino suffered a setback in his rehab following Tommy John surgery.

There are some intriguing names on the trade market, but none more so than Max Scherzer. The Washington Nationals currently sit in last place in the National League East, which means they could be ready to sell off Scherzer, who will be a free agent following the season.
But The Athletic’s Jim Bowden joined MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM on Sunday and said trading for the 36-year-old ace won’t be easy.
“You know, Scherzer is a difference-maker. He’s a difference-maker. This isn’t a guy that, this isn’t just a rental. This is Max Scherzer rental. There’s a difference here. I’m not doing it for a (Justin) Verlander deal. I’m not doing that Detroit-Houston deal. No, no, no. If I do Scherzer, I am getting an elite prospect or two really good prospects. You trade for Scherzer, you think you’re going to win the World Series. Like, this is the (San Diego Padres’) A.J Preller deal. This is the (Los Angeles Dodgers’) Andrew Friedman trade. This is (Chicago Cubs’) Jed Hoyer saying, ‘I made a mistake trading (Yu) Darvish, now I want to try to fix it.’ This is (Oakland Athletics’) Billy Beane saying, ‘This might be my last window at a World Series.’ Billy’s never been afraid to trade best players, best prospects and he loves making that big deal at the deadline, like he did with Jon Lester. ... This is Houston going, ‘he puts me over the top.’ Right? So to me, when I’m looking at this, I’m more looking at really realistically at Padres, Dodgers. ... I’ll go one for one. I’m not going to ask you for quantity, but I’m getting an elite prospect or I’m holding on to him and trying to re-sign him in November.”
Scherzer is 5-4 with a 2.21 ERA in 13 starts this season. Scherzer will be a free agent after the season as he completes a seven-year, $210 million contract, making him an attractive short-term rental for potential contenders.
Scherzer’s resume speaks for itself. He’s a seven-time All-Star, three-time Cy Young Award winner and helped the Nationals win the 2019 World Series.
