An Interview with Max Montoya - Cincy Jungle

farihaue.blogspot.com

Max Montoya is the greatest guard in the history of the Cincinnati Bengals.

He made it to four Pro Bowls and two Super Bowls during a 16-year career.

He blocked for quarterbacks Ken Anderson and Boomer Esiason and running backs like James Brooks, Ickey Woods, and Archie Griffin with the Bengals, then Bo Jackson and Marcus Allen with the Raiders.

In other words, he’s seen it all. So what does he think of the current roster headed by Joe Burrow?

He’s very, very hopeful.

Montoya sees Burrow as a leader in the mold of Joe Montana, the man who crushed Montoya’s dreams twice; he thinks Burrow can similarly help his team transcend the biggest moments and catapult the Bengals into the category of champions.

Still, he doesn’t want to get carried away and is focused on the team getting that first playoff win in about three decades.

We talked to Montoya about his incredible longevity; he ended up making the Pro Bowl at age 37 and suffered very few injuries back before the age of sports science. Unlike Tom Brady, Montoya didn’t have a special diet to promote. Instead, he enjoys good food at the restaurants he owns and manages, Penn Station and Montoya’s Mexican Restaurant.

We were also joined by Marc Herman, a Bengals fan since the team’s inception, better known as “LA Bengals Fan.” He asked Montoya about the missed opportunities in Cincinnati’s Super Bowl losses and the differences in coaching style between Forrest Gregg and Sam Wyche. Make sure to tune in for the entire interview for a lesson in Bengals’ history.
