COLUMBUS
Max Lee Holtsclaw, 87, of Columbus, passed away at 4:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at his home.
Max was born December 12, 1932, in Greene County, Indiana, the son of Frank and Forrest Williams Holtsclaw. On August 6, 1955, he married Margaret Goodwin.
Mr. Holtsclaw graduated from Bloomfield High School and served one tour of duty in Korea. He was awarded the Commendation Ribbon by the army for his actions in Korea and was honorably discharged after his service. Mr. Holtsclaw was a member of the local V.F.W. # 1987 and American Legion Post #24. He worked as System Operations Supervisor for Public Service Indiana now Duke Energy, retiring on December 31, 1989. Max started and operated the 5-M Orchard in 1980. In his free time, Max enjoyed running and training Beagle dogs. He ran them in field trails as long as his health would allow.
Survivors include his children, Michael Lee (Deborah) Holtsclaw of Carmel, Mary (Joel) Lay of Columbus, Melissa Irene (Steve) Dern of Lebanon, Ohio; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brother, Loren (Susan) Holtsclaw of Bloomfield; several nieces and nephews and longtime live in companion, Connie Schrougham.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Wayne Dale Holtsclaw, sisters, Dorothy Parks, Mary Louise Hall, Julie Correne Hoffman and former spouse, Margaret Goodwin Holtsclaw.
Private family and invited guests viewing will be at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home and a private family graveside service will be conducted at Walnut Grove Cemetery with Dr. William Bailey officiating. Military honors will be presented by the Bloomfield American Legion. A celebration of life for Max will be scheduled at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
