HBO Max pre-order price drop: the on-demand video platform is now cheaper than Netflix - What Hi-Fi? US

farihaue.blogspot.com

With less than four weeks before the launch of HBO Max on 27th May, WarnerMedia's new on-demand video streaming platform, the AT&T-owned entertainment giant has dropped its pre-order promo engine into gear with some competitive pricing.

WarnerMedia (comprised of HBO, Turner and Warner Bros.) just introduced a new promotional pricing offer which gives customers a 20 per cent discount on the HBO Max streaming package for 12 months.

That means you can buy HBO Max for $11.99 per month now (versus its regular price of $14.99) and get immediate access to HBO Now, which will then will be auto-upgraded to HBO Max on its 27th May launch date – in 23 days.

For one whole year, eligible subscribers can save $3 on HBO Max per month (via hbomax.com) making the new streaming service $1 cheaper than Netflix’s standard HD plan, which is still $12.99 per month.

So, who is eligible? Well, there are a few terms and conditions. This special HBO Max offer is available only to new subscribers or “returning eligible” HBO Now subscribers (ex-HBO Now subscribers should receive an email) until 27th May at 2:59am ET. And, initially at least, HBO Max is available only in the United States.

In addition to these restrictions, (and as noted by Variety) WarnerMedia also says there are “a limited number of subscriptions to this HBO Now/HBO Max promotional offer” and that “no free trials will be available during this offer period”. This might mean that, for the next few weeks at least, the New York colossus will stop its current seven-day free trial offer for HBO Now.

WarnerMedia is billing HBO Max as "the brand new streaming platform that bundles all of HBO together with even more blockbusters, addictive series and exclusive Max Originals”.

Currently, the HBO Max discount is available only if you pre-order directly through WarnerMedia. If you get it through another distributor, you’ll probably pay full whack – ie. $14.99 per month – unless your service provider has a separate bundle deal.

Why is WarnerMedia making it more attractive for people to sign up for HBO Max direct? Well, even with the 20 per cent discount, the firm will probably generate more revenue per subscriber than if a consumer pays for the service through its partners – both Apple and Google take a standard 30 per cent app-store cut on transactions, for example.

With the tagline “Where HBO meets so much more,” how much more will HBO Max subscribers get?

The Max service will apparently include all of the programming from HBO plus a slate of new originals, third-party licensed content like full seasons of Friends and Pretty Little Liars alongside all of the films from Japan’s exceptional Studio Ghibli. In addition, expect movies from Warner Bros., New Line and DC: everything from Joker and Suicide Squad to Casablanca and The Wizard of Oz.

It's also worth noting that WarnerMedia says HBO Max will carry content from other WarnerMedia brands including CNN, TNT, TBS, Turner Classic Movies and Cartoon Network.
