Plenty of Major League pitchers have dreamed of getting the opportunity to play alongside and learn from some of the best starters in the history of the game. Patrick Corbin believes that's exactly what he's gotten by joining the Nationals.
During an "Ask Me Anything" with Bleacher Report recently, Corbin was asked who he believed were the best starting pitchers of all-time. The first name he mentioned was the hard-throwing lefty Randy Johnson, who he never had a chance to play with. The next two out of his mouth, however, were pitchers he is very familiar with: Max Scherzer and Stephen Strasburg.
Spending a year working with the two as during the Nationals World Series run, Corbin was able to see first-hand just how dominant his teammates are on the mound, enough to have him state that they are two of the best three to ever take the mound to start a game.
Part of the reason he feels this way is because of how Scherzer and Strasburg carry themselves and prepare. There are different methods to their game, but the two will always share one similar trait: they get results.
"To watch what Max does on and off the field, and those days in between is pretty special with how competitive he is. And just how consistent Strasburg is," Corbin said. "They're kind of like the total opposite. Max is a really intense, high-energy guy, where Stras kinda keeps to himself and goes out there and shows with his performance what he can do."

It shouldn't come as a big surprise that Corbin has such high praise for the duo. Besides their track record and success he saw first-hand in 2019, Corbin has always had an appreciation for their brilliance. Last offseason as a free agent, his decision to sign with Washington was largely due to the pitchers he would be joining.
"A huge thing was the rotation," Corbin said on what impacted his decision. "Pitching with Stras and Scherzer is pretty special."
With just one year as a National under his belt, Corbin got a World Series trophy and the opportunity to work with two pitchers who he sees as all-time greats. It looks like his reasoning behind choosing Washington in free agency has worked out pretty well so far.
