Max Garrison’s 6 TDs power St. Francis football past Mira Costa - The Pasadena Star-News

LA CANADA – Max Garrison had a night to remember as he rushed for 371 yards on 20 carries and scored six touchdowns to lead host St. Francis to a 44-35 win over Mira Costa on Friday night.

Garrison’s last time touchdown was an 52 yard scamper left in the fourth quarter with 2:23 left that sealed the victory for the Golden Knights (1-0).

Despite leaving the game sporadically with cramps, the senior scored three touchdowns in the second half and accumulated 196 yards on nine carries.

St. Francis junior quarterback Jack Jacobs completed 7 of 18 passes for 67 yards. He also rushed for 58 yards on 13 carries.

The win was the first for veteran season coach Dean Herrington, who was named the new coach after the spring season to replace the late Jim Bonds who passed away from cancer.

Mira Costa (1-1) received a fine effort from Matthew Kraskouskas. The senior rushed for 247 yards on 23 carries and scored two touchdowns.

Quarterback Casey Pavlick turned in a solid performance as he completed 12 of 19 passes for 235 yards and three touchdowns with an interception. Reese Leonard hauled in seven passes for 122 yards and two touchdowns.

It was a big first half for Garrison as he rushed for 175 yards on 11 carries and scored three touchdowns. His last score of the half was a 10-yard run with 6:12 left in the second quarter for a 21-14 lead.

Kraskouskas also had a huge first half as he amassed 154 yards on 14 carries and scored two touchdowns. His second score occurred in the early stages of the second quarter on a 22-yard pass from quarterback Caey Pavlick for a 14-7 Mustangs lead.

Pavlick had a solid first half as he completed six of seven passes for 123 yards and a touchdown.

St. Francis closed out the first half scoring with a 37 yard field goal by Clint Geryak for a 24-14 advantage.
