It looks like Michael Irvin is taking his talents of debating Stephen A. Smith to ESPN’s “First Take.”
The Cowboys wide receiver turned sports broadcaster is reportedly in line for a guest commentator role on the popular show hosted by Smith in wake of Max Kellerman’s removal, Outkick first reported last week before Front Office Sports added further details Tuesday.
The deal is not yet finalized, according to the report, but is expected to be limited to just “First Take” on NFL Mondays. In addition to Irvin, other potential guest commentators include ESPN talents Marcus Spears, Keyshawn Johnson and Jay Williams.
The Post’s Andrew Marchand reported on Tuesday that Smith forced Kellerman off the show. There will be a rotating group of hot take opponents for Smith, mostly made up of ESPN analysts, though Irvin’s fiery history with Smith apparently could lead to an exception.
Irvin, who was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2007 after a 12-year career, previously worked for ESPN on “Sunday NFL Countdown.” He has served as an analyst for NFL Network since 2009.
The 55-year-old Irvin, who is known for his animated TV rants, has also previously squared off against Smith, heatedly debating America’s Team on “First Take.” According to Front Office Sports, host Molly Qerim described Irvin as Smith’s “greatest rival.”
The two have repeatedly gotten into it over the Cowboys, the team Smith routinely mocks – and the team that Irvin won three Super Bowls with.
