Max Grover is back at Northwind Art’s Grover Gallery in an exhibit of “New Paintings, Old Drawings by Max Grover.”
Colorful and whimsical, this Port Townsend icon’s work features themes of cities, pets, transportation, and the culture of Port Townsend.
His body of work includes a combination of new oil paintings and older drawings. A lot of the artwork in the exhibit has emerged from his time spent during the pandemic.
“I think during the pandemic, painting was a way to feel connected, to incorporate things that might evoke a memory or bring comfort,” Grover said in a recent press release. “A lot of the things I draw and paint are things that are familiar to people.”
“Most of these drawings have never been exhibited before,” Grover continued. “I think it’s interesting to see how many of the drawings come back to life as paintings.”
The exhibit opens Thursday, Aug. 5 and runs through Sunday, Aug. 29 at the Grover Gallery on Taylor Street.
Grover will also be teaching classes at the Northwind Art School.
